About Elena

Elena Meredith is a writer in Boulder, Colorado. She is currently at work on two children’s picture books.

Elena grew up amongst the cornfields and dairy farms of Southeastern Minnesota. During her childhood, her parents gave her the greatest gift: the love of reading. Her family owned an independent bookstore and every room in their house had an overflowing bookcase. Elena and her three siblings were raised on stories by George MacDonald, C.S. Lewis, Laura Ingalls Wilder, James Herriot, and Gary Paulsen. Elena has always enjoyed writing and drawing. In elementary school, Elena’s cartoons were featured in the Post-Bulletin’s special Earth Day section (back when they published your home address in the newspaper). At age 10, Elena was one of the second-prize winners in Scholastic Storyworks’ Magic School Bus writing contest, which received more than 25,000 entries. In high school, Elena worked at her family’s bookstore and competed in ballroom dancesport. Elena began college as a journalism major at The University of Minnesota, but soon realized she wanted to take more creative license with her stories and transferred to the University of Tampa, where she graduated with a B.A. in Writing. During college she worked as a research assistant for author and poet Enid Shomer. Elena started her career in publishing, working as a literary publicist for nearly a decade. She managed media campaigns for over 400 books, for as many authors and publishers. Her projects included books on surfing, alpinism, environmental activism, education, adventure memoirs, and children’s books. She worked on a literal book launch to the International Space Station for Story Time From Space, and helped support the Save the Boundary Waters campaign to protect the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) in Northern Minnesota.

Elena lives in Boulder with her family. She enjoys visiting libraries and bookstores around the world, and always makes time for daily adventures and exploring the natural world.
